Description: An examination of language and literacy development in individuals and in society. Includes definitions of literacy; development of structural knowledge; development of communication skills; the role of language differences in the problems of learning to read and write; oral language arts; emergent literacy; and writing development.

Credit: Credit is awarded for one of the following EDUC 271A or EDUC 271B.
