Description: An anthropological study of travel and tourism. Topics include cultural implications for travel- ers, local people, environment, and economy; histori- cal and social construction of tourist sites; material objects; the culture and performance of tourism; the photographic eye; the tourist encounter; cultural mediation; politics of cultural representation; and commoditization of culture.

Credit: Credit is awarded for only one of ANTH 119 or ANTH 280.
