Description: A research seminar focusing on themes in the study of the American West from the colonial era to the present, including migration, expansion, and modern urban development. Includes historical inter- pretations, readings, discussions, and research. Students begin a paper based on archival research, oral history, and material culture. Graded In Progress (IP) until HIST 237A and HIST 273B are completed, at which time a final grade is assigned. After complet- ing both HIST 273A and HIST 273B, students may repeat the sequence once for credit; total credit for each course may not exceed 8 units.
