Prerequisites: graduate standing

Description: Examines a selected topic in phi- losophy of mind. Potential topics include conscious- ness and self-consciousness; intentionality and theo- ries of mental content; mental causation; conscious- ness and free will; introspection and knowledge of other minds; perception; emotion; imagination; con- cepts and rationality; artificial minds; and animal minds. Students who complete all writing assign- ments, including a term paper, receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. Course is repeatable as content changes to a maximum of 8 units.

Credit: Credit is awarded for only one of PHIL 144 or PHIL 244.
