Prerequisites: graduate standing

Description: A study of some of the traditional issues in the philosophy of language, such as analyticity, theo- ries of reference, truth, speech act theory, and philo- sophical theories of formal grammars. Students who complete all writing assignments, including a term paper, receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. Credit is awarded for only one of PHIL 132 or PHIL 232. Philosophy
