Description: This course examines major themes in Black education: the education of slave and free Blacks; role of missionaries and philanthropists in Black education; the growth of Black colleges; curric- ular debates; and the NAACP challenge of the “sepa- rate but equal” doctrine. Does not fulfill the Humanities or Social Sciences requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
