Prerequisites: EE 202 or MSE 217; graduate standing
Description: Studies acoustic and optical phonons that affect electrical, thermal, and optical properties of materials. Focuses on the confinement-induced changes of phonon properties in nanostructures and their implications for performance of electronic, thermoelectric, and optoelectronic devices. Explores phonon theory, Raman spectroscopy and other phonon characterization techniques, thermal conductivity, and related measurements.
Cross-listing: Cross-listed with EE 216.
