Description: An introduction to fundamental concepts of geophysical fluid dynamics. Topics include basic equations, conservation laws, circulation, vorticity, Kelvin’s Theorem, and potential vorticity conservation. Also includes shallow water Rossby wave dynamics such as quasi-geostrophic equation, Rossby waves, group velocity and energy propagation, Ekman dynamics, Sverdrup flow, and basics of stratified fluid.
