Prerequisites: ME 240A or consent of instructor
Description: An introduction to the application of fundamental conservation laws of mechanics (mass, momentum, and energy) to the modeling of complex turbulent natural and human-made flows. Covers tensor notation, statistical and spectral analysis, and basic turbulent closure techniques, including understanding of turbulence with intuitive insight into the problems that cannot be rigorously solved. May be taken Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) by students advanced to candidacy for the Ph.D.
