An overview of literary and visual culture theory through a focus on shopping, read from a variety of critical perspectives (Marxist, feminist, psychoanalytics, etc.). Topics addressed include commodity culture, advertising, taste and identity, fashion, shoplifting, and the Americanization of global popular culture.
