Prerequisites: upper-division standing or at least one lower-division English course (other than composition) or consent of instructor
Description: The course concentrates on major works by Walt Whitman, utilizing a comprehensive edition of Leaves of Grass, prefaces, essays, and outside readings in critical and biographical studies. Considerable attention will be devoted to Whitman’s influence on later artists and writers, i.e., “the Whitman tradition.”
