Prerequisites: upper-division standing or lower-division English course (other than composition) or consent of instructor

Description: An examination of the relationships between social and political issues in nineteenth- and twentieth-century America and some related works of fiction. Focuses will be upon questions of literary form, intentionality, reader response, and the relation of art to historical processes.
