Description: Examines various approaches to the study of Islam. Includes textual, ritual-symbolical, historical, anthropological, sociological, and cultural studies. Also explores orientalism and occidentalism, textuality and orality, sacredness and profanity, orthodoxy and heterodoxy, tradition and modernity, conversion, identity, and media. Utilizes primary works on Islamic scriptures, ritual, and societies.
