Description: Examines textual communities and interpretative virtuosi in different religious cultures. Explores the means by which religious scripture is composed, transmitted, translated, illuminated, performed, and preserved in Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. Introduces students to the methodologies and approaches of textual anthropology, intertextuality, homiletics, liturgical studies, performance theory, and philology.
