Description: Provides an intensive study of Shakespeare’s King Lear in terms of English renaissance thought and an evaluation of major twentieth-century productions and literary critical approaches. Assesses Nahum Tate’s eighteenth-century adaptation, Peter Brook’s and Grigori Kozintsev’s films, David Wolfit’s stage performance (on record), a cowboy film adaptation, and Edward Bond’s Lear.
