Description: Covers methods for the characterization of organic and inorganic compounds and advanced methods of synthesis of organic and inorganic compounds such as vacuum, inert atmosphere, high-pressure, and photochemical techniques. Involves hands- on use of spectroscopic (nuclear magnetic resonance and optical spectroscopy and mass spectrometry) and computer-based methods for structural characterization. Non-Chemistry majors and graduate students may enroll for the lecture (2 units) or for the lecture and laboratory (4 units).
