Prerequisites: graduate standing in Chemistry or consent of instructor

Description: Surveys all aspects of ion chemistry in the gas phase. Topics include mass spectrometry, ion mobility, electrospray ionization, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization, ion-molecule reactions, ion-ion reactions, quantum calculations, instrumentation, and photodissociation spectroscopy. Emphasis is on bioanalytical applications for the study of protein structure, folding, and assembly. Students who present a seminar or submit a term paper receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. Course is repeatable.
