Prerequisites: graduate standing

Description: An investi- gation of some of the traditional problems in Western philosophy that have been labeled metaphysical, such as the existence of God, the relationship between mind and body, the determinism versus free will de- bate, and the nature of time and space. Students who complete all writing assignments, including a term paper, receive a letter grade; other students receive Philosophy /Physical Sciences /Physics and Astronomy related to the 100-series course. Faculty guides and evaluations will be provided throughout the quarter.

Credit: Graded Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC). May be repeated for credit.
