Description: Examines the prevalence of racial segregation of Mexican origin students in U.S. schools, Americanization programs, and community responses to such endeavors in the first half of the twentieth century. Explores the Chi- cano/a movement’s impact on education throughout the Southwest. Notes the various strategies employed by activists and community members to affect the Chicano/a generation’s education. Fulfills either the Humanities or Social Sciences requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, but not both.
