Prerequisites: graduate standing
Description: Surveys the history of comparative literature and introduces the beginning graduate student to the various methodolo- gies, aesthetic theories, and critical approaches which have come to dominate its field of inquiry. In addition to class discussion, examinations, and a term paper, students are also involved in a number of practical activities designed to sharpen their critical acumen, enlarge academic vocabulary, and encourage mastery of scholarship procedures.
