Prerequisites: graduate standing in Chemistry or consent of instruc- tor
Description: Introduces key areas of synthetic organic and organometallic chemistry in a mechanism-based ap- proach. Explores current literature with an emphasis on catalytic asymmetric reactions and their application to the synthesis of biologically active compounds. Surveys the background and history of discoveries leading to the development of new catalytic method- ology. Students who present a seminar receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. Course is repeatable to a maximum of 36 units.
