Description: Examines Java- nese traditional and contemporary music. Focuses on the music of the Javanese gamelan and its relation to larger cosmological themes. Other topics include rural versus court traditions, popular music, mass media, piracy, Hindu roots, modernity, and local practices versus global trends.
