Major differences as well as similarities in the forms of language, social organi- zation, religion, and material culture occurring in the Greater Southwest will be defined and described. The peoples of the Greater Southwest are considered, not only in terms of the ethnographic present, but also through a diachronic perspective, from the prehistoric past through the Spanish colonial era to the present.
