Description: Examines the regional and social variation in language use within the Chicana/o community. Focuses on the maintenance of Spanish language use, private versus public domains of language use, the need for bilingual social services, language as a human right versus language as a constitutional right, and the political economy context of language. Also addresses general sociolinguistic theory and methodology.
