Prerequisites: graduate standing or consent of instructor

Description: Intensive research in particular areas of Restoration and eighteenth-century literature and society such as the “rise” of the novel; women writers and readers; interactions of “high” and “low” cultures; ideologies of gender and sexuality; capitalism, colonialism, and literature; autobiographical and historical representations of self and others. Course is repeatable as content changes.
