Description: Examination of the work of imprisoned writers of color as well as white intellectuals/activists who have influenced the formation of social movements in the United States since the 1970s as prisons and jails have become primary sites of political and racial conflict. Elaborates how race, gender, and patriarchy are central to the establishment of state regimes of incarceration. Fulfills the Social Sciences require ment for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
