Prerequisites: graduate standing in Economics or in one of the biological sciences or consent of instructor
Description: Covers the economic causes and consequences of revolutions in biotechnology. Topics may include the agricultural revolution, the Columbian exchange, and biotechnological advances in mechanization, brewing, and plant and animal breeding. Focuses on the implications of adopting genetically modified crops such as Bacillus thuringiensis corn and herbicide-resistant crops. Students who submit a term paper receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. Course is repeatable as content changes.
