Description: Examination of selected writings by and about Augustine of Hippo (354-450) and Thomas Aquinas (1226-1274), whose works have had a major impact on Western religions, literature, and history. Themes addressed include the search for wisdom, the nature of happiness, what constitutes a good life, the nature of freedom and the source of evil, the existence of God, the relationships between faith and reason, the power and limits of language.
