Prerequisites: upper-division standing or consent of instructor
Description: Studies the history of Japanese documentary cinema. Teaches strategies for reading nonfiction visual narrative. Explores other forms of documentation controversial in modern Japanese history including oral testimony, photography, and internet activism. Topics may include war, war protest, peace activism, environmental activism, nuclear politics, and green energy. Course is repeatable as topics and instructor change to a maximum of 8 units. Cross-listed with AST 180 and JPN 180. Fulfills the Humanities requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
