Prerequisites: graduate standing
Description: Surveys the history of comparative literature and introduces the beginning graduate student to the various methodologies, aesthetic theories, and critical approaches which have come to dominate its field of inquiry. In addition to class discussion, examinations, and a term paper, students are also involved in a number of practical activities designed to sharpen their critical acumen, enlarge academic vocabulary, and encourage mastery of scholarship procedures.
