Description: A historical analysis of Vietnamese literature from its oral tradition to contemporary fiction. Follows the formation of the nation-state and the subsequent struggles with the Chinese, French, Japanese, and Americans. No knowledge of Vietnamese required. Readings are in translation or bilingual editions. Classes are conducted in English.
