Description: Examines the history and culture of mass consumerism in the United States. Topics include the shift from mass production to mass consumption; the growth of advertising and product marketing; the rise of the department store and shopping mall; the relationship of race, ethnicity, and gender to the market; globalization; and anticonsumerism.
