Prerequisites: EE 215 (may be taken concurrently)

Description: Covers the fundamental theory and tools for designing data and signal compression systems. Topics include lossless coding, scalar quantization, predictive and transform coding techniques, vector quantization, and the general trade-off between the reproduction signal quality and the bit-rate of the digital representation. Provides a foundation for further study and research in speech, audio, image, and video compression.
