Prerequisites: upper-division standing and consent of instructor

Description: Study and performance of the Central Javanese gamelan, consisting mainly of gongs and gong-chime instruments. Readings and discussions focus on Javanese culture. Normally graded Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC), but students may petition the instructor for a letter grade on the basis of assigned extra work or examination. Course is repeatable.
