Prerequisites: graduate standing or consent of instructor
Description: A study of theories and practices of rhet- oric, argument, persuasion, and, in some cases, poet- ics in ancient China and Greece (texts dating from the fifth to the third centuries B.C.), as well as some of their implications for contemporary theory and prac- tice. Students who submit a seminar paper receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. This course may also be taken on a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) basis by students advanced to candi- dacy for the Ph.D.
