Prerequisites: graduate standing
Description: Surveys the history of comparative literature and intro- duces the beginning graduate student to the various methodologies, aesthetic theories, and critical approaches which have come to dominate its field of inquiry. In addi- tion to class discussion, examinations, and a term paper, students are also involved in a number of practical activi- ties designed to sharpen their critical acumen, enlarge aca- demic vocabulary, and encourage mastery of scholarship procedures.
