Description: Survey of modern Japanese thought from a theoretical and intel- lectual historical perspective. Topics include philo- sophical discussions of modernization, “Westernization,” nationalism, colonialism and imperi- alism, “comfort women,” Japanese war crimes in con- tinental Asia, the American bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, post-World War II remembrance and denial. All readings are in English.
