Prerequisites: graduate standing or consent of instructor

Description: Covers the technique and theory of inter- preting theoretical texts of the study of religion within historical contexts. Special attention is paid to Charles Taylor’s theory of interpretation in the human sciences and Quentin Skinner’s theory of understand- ing theoretical ideas. Models are drawn from the liter- ature of the theory of myth, religion, and sacrifice.
