Description: Survey of critics and defenders of religion who debate meanings and functions of reli- gions in light of modern challenges. Topics include religious pluralism due to cross-cultural encounters in Africa, Asia, and the Americas; wars among religions; theories of evolution; discovery of the unconscious; rise of behavioral and social sciences.
