Description: Examination of the structure and functioning of the United Nations with major emphasis on the principal organs (Security Council, General Assembly), ECOSOC, the Trusteeship Council and the leading committees. The course will examine theories on the pacific settlement of disputes, collective security and functionalism. The focus will be on the United Nations as a living, contemporary political institution.
