Prerequisites: graduate standing; consent of instructor

Description: Topics include synthesis of new materials and hybrid nanos- tructures, molecular beam epitaxy and magnetism dynamics, ultrafast optical spectroscopy, spin trans- port in molecular electronic devices, and sample characterization by atomic force microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Students who pres- ent a seminar or submit a term paper receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. Course is repeatable. Kawakami
