Prerequisites: upper-division standing or consent of instructor

Description: This course will begin with the end of the treaty-making period and the point in time that the United States emerged as a colonial power (1871). The history of the relationship between the United States government and the American Indian tribes from the year 1871 to 1988 will be presented phase by phase. In addition, it will explore the position and role of the American Indian during the last twenty years. Fulfills the Social Sciences requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
