Description: Analysis of the emergence and develop- ment of street gangs as a historical and contemporary phenomenon. Special emphasis is given to alternative conceptions, definitions, and theories of gang forma- tion. The approach is comparative, focusing on 282 / Programs and Courses African American, Asian American, Chicano, and White street gangs. Fulfills the Social Sciences requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
