Prerequisites: graduate standing in Economics or in one of the bio- logical sciences or consent of instructor

Description: Covers the economic causes and consequences of revolutions in biotechnology. Topics may include the agricultural rev- olution, the Columbian exchange, and biotechnologi- cal advances in mechanization, brewing, and plant and animal breeding. Focuses on the implications of adopting genetically modified crops such as Bacillus thuringiensis corn and herbicide-resistant crops. Students who submit a term paper receive a letter grade; other students receive a Satisfactory (S) or No Credit (NC) grade. Course is repeatable as content changes.
