Description: The comparative and historical analysis of human social institutions, with emphasis on: (a) the emergence and develop- ment of the basic institutional systems of economy, polity, kinship, religion, law, and education; (b) the structure and process of these institutions in varying types of societies; (c) the interrelation of these institu- tions to each other and to other structuring processes.
