Description: Examines the regional and social variation in language use within the Chicano commu- nity. Specific issues addressed are the maintenance of Spanish language use, private versus public domains of language use, the need for bilingual social services, language as a human right versus language as a con- stitutional right, and the political economy context of language. General sociolinguistic theory and method- ology are also addressed.
