Description: Examines controversies in the field of Buddhist studies. Topics include the rise of asceticism in India, the composition of the earliest Buddhist 400 / Programs and Courses texts, the process of transmission of texts and transla- tion problems, the rise of sectarian debate, and women’s role in Buddhist ecclesia.
