Prerequisites: graduate standing or consent of instructor

Description: Examines the relation between politics and religion from premodernity through postmoderni- ty. Topics include the divine right of kings; Machiavelli, Locke, and Hobbes; documents of the American, English, French, and Turkish revolutions; Islamism; secularism; the clash of civilizations; the United states as a Christian nation; and fascism and nationalism as religions.
