Description: Investigates popular visual cul- ture in Japan primarily through film, from the early masters to contemporary directors. May draw addi- tional material from fields such as theatre, television, visual art, architecture, and illustrated fiction. All materials are read or viewed in English. Course is repeatable to a maximum of 12 units. Cross-listed with AST 184 and JPN 184. Fulfills the Humanities requirement for the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences.
