Description: Survey of modern Japanese thought from a theoretical and intel- lectual historical perspective. Topics include philo- sophical discussions of modernization, “Westernization,” “nationalism,” colonialism and imperialism, “comfort women,” Japanese war crimes in continental Asia, the American bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, post-World War II remem- brance and denial. All readings are in English.
